THE CLEVERLYS are one of the most outrageous bands that we’ve ever come across. This “family” band comes from the remote part of the Ozark Mountains, near Cane Spur, Arkansas. Their twisted sense of humor and stellar musicianship rocked this year’s CMA Fest and their YouTube downloads have topped over a million. They have an incredible “backstory” and a timeless bluegrass sound. What makes the band unusual is their choice of material. They cover The Black Eyed Peas, The Bangles, and many other unexpected choices. thecleverlys.com

This exhibition is an introduction and celebration of sculptural art created on the continent of Africa. Displayed are rather large and also true to scale creations that represent a broad range of West African artistic creativity, including fantastic bronze statues of heroes and kings. Also represented are sculptures of older heirlooms by contemporary artists- artists who are trained in ancestral traditions which then gives us a window into the aesthetics and the religious beliefs of several cultures.
This exhibit is a great opportunity to see how African artists today are working from past models and introducing new ideas into art made for an international audience. Countries represented in “African Art: A Teachable Moment” are: Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Burkino Faso, Guinea, Mali, Republic of Benin, Algeria, Ghana Cameroon, along with works from Central and Eastern Africa.
April 19- August 31, 2013
