This summer the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center embarks on its first ever summer programming schedule.  These classes are FREE of charge to all attendees.  Lunches will be provided to all youth (18 and under) who participate.   All programs will take place on Saturdays throughout the summer beginning June 16th at 10am – 2pm.  Click here to read information about each program offered and get documentation for enrollment.

    Lyric’s Little Dresses for Lexington:

The Lyric implemented our first social service project, “Lyric’s Little Dresses for Lexington,” on Martin Luther King Day of Service this year. Our initial goal was to create 250 “pillowcase dresses” to help clothe underprivileged girls in Lexington, but through the overwhelming community involvement we’ve collected well over 400 dresses. This summer we begin Phase II of the Little Dresses program, where young girls will be taught to sew pillowcase dresses for Haitian and African young girls in need. We want these young girls to experience how volunteering can teach them more about themselves and their world while preparing them for their future along with connecting them to their community.  Participants must enroll by Wednesday, June 13th.

Girls from 10 – 16 years of age (Maximum of 21 girls)

Must make commitment to attend entire summer program.

NOTE: FREE Lunches will be provided for youth (June, July & August 11th)

    Acting Out:

This class will offer preteens and teens an instrument to express themselves through acting, spoken word and self-expression.  The class will end with a grand production written and directed by the youth. Acting Out will be taught by Bruce Mundy.

Participants must enroll by Wednesday, June 13th.

Boys and Girls 11 – 18 years of age (Maximum of 10 participants)

Must make commitment to attend for entire summer program.

NOTE: FREE Lunches will be provided for youth (June, July & August 11th)

    African Drumming: Akwokwo Ba Drum

This class introduces the rhythm, the sound and the beat of Africa.  This multifaceted class will teach persons of ALL age groups the art of African Drumming.  This is our only program that does not require enrollment.  We have space for a maximum of (10) participants, per age group, and seats will be filled on first come, first seat basis.   Akwokwo Ba Drum will be taught by Robert L. Wint (As Sih Aqaqa Ba).  His strength is teaching the fundamentals.

    Youth: Age 7 – 18: 10am – 11:30am

    Adults:  18 and up: 12:30pm – 2pm

NOTE: FREE Lunches will be provided for youth (June, July & August 11th)
